The Silk Road was once the conduit for goods and ideas between China and the West. Along it lies the oasis town of Kucha. Now part of China, from 200 BC to 700 AD Kucha lay in the kingdom of Qiuci. These programs focus on the cave art found within Qiuci, believed to include among the earliest of extant Buddhist images. Through the art, we learn about the ancient kingdom -- its wealth, religion, and importance for the caravans that plied the Silk Road.
